Yes, obtaining the right fishing license is crucial for your trip. If you're an Arkansas resident, you'll need both the Resident Fisheries Conservation License (#FSH) priced at $10.50 and a Resident Trout Permit (#TPR) at $10.00. For non-Arkansas residents, the most cost-effective option is the Non-Resident 3 Day Trip Fishing License (#NT3) available for $30.00 along with the Non-Resident Trout Permit (#TPN) priced at $20.00. If you're a non-resident planning multiple visits to Arkansas waters within a year, it might be more practical to consider the Non-Resident Annual Fishing License (#NRF) at $60.00 rather than the 3 Day trip license. All the necessary licenses can be conveniently purchased through the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission's website at AGFC.com
The White River is a year-round destination for fishing enthusiasts, with one exception: a 1-mile section below Bull Shoals Dam is closed from November 1st to January 31st to facilitate the Brown Trout Spawn. Throughout the year, the White River maintains consistently cold water, offering excellent fishing opportunities in every season. When planning your trip, consider your weather preferences. February and March tend to be chilly, with a chance of snow. From April to October, the weather is warmer and generally preferred by most visitors. Even in the peak of summer, the river's cool waters keep the fish active and biting, providing a refreshing escape from the heat. The holiday season in November, December, and January sees cooler temperatures and fewer fishing activities. For optimal fishing experiences, mornings are prime, and weekdays often present the best opportunities to reel in a great catch.
